TerraGo to Demonstrate Upcoming v.6 Software Advancements

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 15, 2012 -- Kent Peña, GIS coordinator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will provide an overview of his agency’s initiative to aid farmers and protect the environment through the use of TerraGo® software and GeoPDF® maps and imagery at the Esri Federal GIS conference, Feb. 22-24, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

Peña’s presentation, entitled Leveraging GeoPDFs to Benefit Farmers and Protect the Environment, will detail NRCS’ need to enable farmers, ranchers, agronomists and others working or studying the land to easily see soil properties and nutrient spreading restrictions. The presentation will address how NRCS uses TerraGo software to create portable, interactive and intelligent GeoPDF maps and imagery that can be used by anyone, anywhere to update and share geospatial information. Peña’s presentation is part of a larger session entitled Managing Secured Geodatabase Collections at 3:15– 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23.

The NRCS strives to protect and conserve the country’s soil quality. This effort includes maintaining a large database of geospatial information comprised of status maps, aerial photography, orthophotography and soil digital spatial data services.

“The NRCS needed to share large amounts of land management information with farmers who did not have sophisticated GIS or expertise,” said Peña. “Since implementing TerraGo GeoPDF technology, we have produced more than 100,000 maps and our users have increased their access to the online mapping system- up to more than 3,000 times per month during Wisconsin’s peak season.”

ESRI Federal GIS Conference attendees visiting TerraGo booth 501 will be able to experience hands-on demonstrations of how to use v.6 software to produce, interact with and share 2D and 3D GeoPDF maps and imagery.
