GDC Reveals Relationship Between Statistics And Geography With GeoReveal

New product enables users to transform data into interactive geo-statistical presentations

22 July 2004 - Geographic information specialist GDC (www.graphdata.co.uk) has today launched the latest addition to its product family; GeoReveal is a powerful tool that enables users to graphically represent the relationship between data and geography. For the first time, GeoReveal makes it possible for both GIS-literate and non-GIS users to link back-office data with eye-catching graphics and informative interactive mapping making statistical information about specific locations easier to view and understand. Users can take advantage of intelligence about geographic trends to assist in future planning and improved decision-making.

Based on a simple wizard-driven interface, GeoReveal guides the user through a number of straightforward steps, delivering professional results without the need for web or graphic design skills. If desired, output can be tailored by using the advanced menus which operate independently of the wizard facility.

Steven Feldman, managing director of GDC, explains: “GeoReveal is based on the use of SVG (scalable vector graphics) mapping but is the first solution of its kind that allows the user to produce their own interactive geo-statistical presentations quickly and simply. The software is neither vertical nor vendor specific, meaning that GeoReveal will deliver valuable analysis to any organisation that has a need to consider its data in relation to geography. This analysis can then be shared via web sites, portals and web applications on an internal and external basis.”

Steve Spring is GIS Manager at Dorset County Council: “I saw a demonstration of GeoReveal at a recent GDC seminar and realised that it would greatly assist us when importing information from our annual Dorset Data Book to the Internet and intranet sites. This publication comprises detailed statistical data about social, economic and environmental aspects of the county and GeoReveal is proving to be an effective and visually engaging way of presenting this material. I had originally expected this to take eight man weeks, but using GeoReveal, I anticipate the task will be completed in less than two.”

He continued: “GeoReveal will enable us to produce fully interactive geo-statistics which will not only bring data to life for council staff and other public sector colleagues but also for the citizens of Dorset.”

GeoReveal can benefit every organisation that needs to evaluate its corporate information in conjunction with geography. For example, the marketing sector will be able to analyse lifestyle trends by region to determine preferences, ultimately improving the success of campaign targeting. Those working in property can obtain property values by postcode, revealing up-to-the-minute information about geographical market trends. Similarly, individuals in the insurance sector can acquire overviews of geographical accumulations to inform underwriting decisions.

UK local government users can rapidly turn 2001 Census statistics into interactive presentations for use within the authority or online by the public. For local government users, GeoReveal ships with a full set of boundaries at county, local authority district and ward level pre-prepared for use in GeoReveal.

GeoReveal can be installed quickly and easily and requires very little training. In most instances, customers will be able to generate their first projects within hours of installation.
