GIS, the unifying technology. The City of Olympia, Washington has Selected Geographic Technologies Group (GTG) to Develop a GIS Implementation Plan Designed to Promote Enterprise System Governance

May 26, 2006 -- Portland, OR - Geographic Technologies Group, Inc. (GTG), a leading provider of professional GIS services and software for local government, announced today that the City of Olympia, Washington has retained GTG to conduct a GIS Needs Analysis and develop a Strategic GIS Plan.

GTG will use its expertise and experience in local government GIS implementation planning to develop a prioritized plan that addresses several key needs for the state capital. A key issue to be addressed by the plan is system governance and operational change management, strategic needs that GTG has increasingly addressed in its work with local government during the last several years.

“We are witnessing an increasing demand for comprehensive plans that address GIS as a unifying technology,” said David Kuhn, GTG’s Western Regional Manager. The City of Olympia identified GIS as a core business application and established a GIS Steering Committee last year. “We are excited about working with such a motivated client, they recognize that GIS can be implemented quickly into the decision support process,” continued Kuhn.

GTG will conduct an initial set of interviews on-site at the City to gather information about the City’s current utilization of GIS and related technologies. A controlled and systematic analysis and evaluation will follow, which will form the basis for a strategic plan. At the core of GTG’s implementation planning is it’s “Seven Keys to a Successful GIS Implementation”—an award-winning methodology developed by GTG founders, Curtis Hinton and David Holdstock.
