May 24, 2007 -- Getmapping Plc, the UK’s leading provider of aerial photography and digital mapping donated its aerial photography for a Royal visit.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the new Peter Harrison Planetarium which displayed Getmapping’s aerial photography as the main feature.

Her Majesty visited the planetarium, based in the Isle of Dogs, where she was given a tour of the building, followed by the unveiling of the new £1million projector which cast Getmapping’s aerial photography of Britain on the dome as part of the signature show.

The three images given by Getmapping show aerial views starting off above the Planetarium, zooming out onto the Isle of Dogs and finally displaying an overhead view of Britain before journeying into space.

Tristram Cary, managing director of Getmapping said: “We were honoured to supply the photography for this Royal occasion. Anton Vamplew, planetarium director said: “Getmapping kindly donated three aerial photographs to us which have been used for the signature show. We were keen to show off the potential of our new projector; Getmapping’s photography and the space footage does this well.

The planetarium opens to the public on May 25th, when the signature show will be available for general viewing.
