Free Seminar Teaches Techniques to Design Maps for Web Distribution via ArcGIS Server

Redlands, California - November 5, 2007 —Tune in to a free online seminar this month to learn techniques for authoring maps that will help optimize the performance of both dynamic and cached Web mapping services.

Authoring and Publishing Optimized Map Services will air on ESRI’s Training and Education Web site at www.esri.com/lts on November 15 at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. (Pacific standard time).

A well-created map serves as the foundation of an effective Web mapping service, with choices in design that influence its ultimate performance. This seminar outlines the issues to consider when authoring maps online. Using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Server, the presenters will demonstrate specific techniques to use when authoring a map to optimize a map service.

The presenters will discuss

  • What map services are and how they work
  • Dynamic and cached map services
  • ESRI optimized style for publishing map services on the Web
  • Symbology, background color, and scale dependency

Attendees should be familiar with ArcGIS Desktop software’s ArcMap application.
