Bentley and GEOPAK Join Forces

Newly Formed Bentley Civil Division to Provide Comprehensive Technology Solutions for Civil Engineers Worldwide

EXTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2001--Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced the successful completion of an acquisition by merger of GEOPAK Corporation, continuing Bentley's leadership in civil engineering software solutions worldwide.

Prior to the merger, Bentley distributed GEOPAK products worldwide and owned a twenty-five percent stake in the then privately held company. Financial terms of the merger were not disclosed.

"We look forward to growing our Civil division globally, combining our technical synergy and resources under the leadership of Gabe Norona," said Bentley CEO Greg Bentley. "For the last ten years, GEOPAK Corporation has been the fastest-growing MicroStation application provider and its technical virtuosity and close customer care are well known in the industry."

Gabriel Norona, president and CEO of GEOPAK, becomes Bentley's senior vice president, Civil. He is responsible for Bentley's line of well-established and technically advanced civil engineering products including InRoads and GEOPAK.

All GEOPAK employees will continue in their positions, as will the rest of Bentley's Civil staff. Bentley's Civil operations will be headquartered in Miami, with principal facilities in Alabama, Paris and Australia.

"Bentley offers the strongest possible technical team to address emerging industry needs," said Gabriel Norona. "Our commitment to the agencies and engineering firms who use the software remains firm. We will continue the product lines on their current paths while opening new, mutual opportunities in standards support and integration."

The combined R&D effort will be unmatched in the transportation industry and focused on providing the best technology for civil engineers worldwide.

Bentley Civil will continue to provide the complete range of GEOPAK and InRoads solutions for surveying, design and engineering, and construction, enhanced with services such as consulting, training, implementation, custom development and support for civil engineering.

"More than a products vendor, Bentley focuses on providing field-to-finish solutions and services," said Ron Gant, director of civil engineering for Bentley. "We will continue to support both the leading computer-aided design tools--MicroStation and AutoCAD--and the individual modeling and plan production needs of transportation agencies and engineering consultants worldwide."

This merger is integral to the company's strategy for rapid innovation in integrating survey/inspection functions, GIS, 3-D modeling, and stakeout/construction. Bentley intends to closely integrate both GEOPAK and InRoads with its engineering information management servers including ProjectWise and InterPlot/Digital Print Room.

GEOPAK is used by civil engineering consultants and government agencies worldwide and is the standard civil design software of the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Nineteen U.S. state DOTs and thousands of engineering consultants worldwide use GEOPAK--for roads and interchanges, bridges, dams, railways, and subdivisions.
