As we recently highlighted on GIS Café, stakeholders across most organizations know the value of geographic information, but often lack the expertise to run a traditional desktop GIS. In addition, there is a large potential user base between those working with a rigid and technically demanding desktop GIS and a static lightweight browser based GIS.
To bridge this gap, last month we launched GeoMedia Smart Client, which is an enterprise-wide solution that essentially obliterates the growing disparity between static GIS products and the needs of today’s geospatial contributors.
Now, we are excited to showcase an example of GeoMedia Smart Client coming to life. We just announced that Australia’s Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) recently migrated from an older GIS system to GeoMedia.
GeoMedia Smart Client will provide CGSC employees with more specialized functionality within their specific departments. It will also enable it users to operate full desktop products with advanced geospatial workflows that cannot be supported by web mapping tools.
CGSC is a prime example of an organization that is leveraging innovative geospatial solutions for enhanced decision-making. As such, it has adopted a more flexible, progressive technology to better meet their changing needs.
Here’s a quote from the organization’s GIS Administrator about this implementation:
“One of the most important benefits of Intergraph GeoMedia is its low administration overhead for publishing information in various departments across Central Goldfield Shire,” states Diane Daniell, GIS Administrator, Central Goldfields Shire Council. “Although we are still in the implementation process, we are already using GeoMedia to improve our staff productivity and increase the amount of easily interpreted information into our new mapping environment.”
Needless to say, we are excited to showcase how organizations are embracing GeoMedia on both the desktop and server side, reinforcing how it is one of the most advanced, yet simple-to-use, solutions for performing in-depth analysis of spatial data, as well as for accessing and distributing the data in various formats across the enterprise.
More important, this is a prime example of GeoMedia Smart Client meeting true needs in the marketplace.
