Leverage the Value of Your Geospatial Content with eCommerce

Last year, we showcased a story of how the Netherlands-based, Dotka Data maintains a large and growing collection of historical aerial photography and maps, reflecting more than 200 years of history, and how it had selected ERDAS APOLLO to manage this data in conjunction with an exciting new e-commerce project.
Through this partnership, Dotka is working with the Dutch newspaper AD to offer its readers an opportunity to view current and 50-year old aerial photographs of their own homes.
As such, customers who maintain a subscription or purchase three newspapers have been granted access to a website enabling them to geocode their addresses to locate the relevant imagery, zoom in and out to view the details of their home and surrounding geography and order a free set of aerial images of their homes from 1960 and 2011.
Dotka is also making historical maps and aerial photographs from 1813 to now available for purchase. Every location in the Netherlands is covered by 20-60 layers within this period. The organization is also a reseller of vast geospatial data stores including Dutch Kadaster, Wageningen UR Library, Cyclomedia and others.
On July 25th, Intergraph is hosting a webinar that showcases the new Dotka eCommerce extension for ERDAS APOLLO, which leverages instant online exploitation of massive collections of imagery and vector datasets.
The eCommerce API that Dotka Data developed on top of the ERDAS APOLLO includes three webshop templates for accessing data as original photos, mosaics, geodata or PDF reports, available as prints and downloads.
The Dotka Data eCommerce model is an ideal case study for how other organizations can create their own template, quick-start a custom shop and begin distributing data served by ERDAS APOLLO.
By combining geospatial solutions with e-commerce, it is possible for organizations to create viable business models based on selling historic data and other images. Thanks to a unique e-commerce API – like the one developed by Dotka – organizations can directly sell downloads, prints and reports from all of their geospatial content.
