Google Earth Tour of Reefs at Risk

Take a tour of coral reefs around the world with the World Resources Institute’s Reefs at Risk project and Google Earth. The journey to each of the six coral reef regions provides an overview of the biodiversity of reef ecosystems, their importance to people and local economies, and the types and magnitudes of threats that reefs face, illustrated with vibrant underwater footage of coral reefs and photos of activities that influence reef condition.

Mapping the Past – The Surveys of George Washington

Mr. Redmond is not only an internationally recognized authority on George Washington’s maps but prior to his work with the Library of Congress he taught Early American History at West Chester University and is now working on an atlas of George Washington’s maps.

Critigen’ Solar Map for Salt Lake City

Critigen, a global technology consultancy unveiled a Salt Lake City solar map in December 2010. This solar map was built for the citizens of the city. The map, which can be viewed at: www.slcgov.com/solar/, was developed in collaboration with The Solar Salt Lake Project, an innovative partnership among Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah Clean Energy and other partners; as well as through work with CH2M HILL and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar America Cities program. The solar map gives the citizens of Salt Lake City the ability to visit the site, enter in a property address and see a visual snapshot of the property rooftop and its suitability for solar panels.

GeoEye Foundation Satellite Imagery Confirms Human Rights Violations in Porta Farm, Zimbabwe

In 2006, amongst denied claims of human rights violations, researchers Dr. Chris Lavers, Chris Bishop, Anne Lavers, and Samuel Lavers, used GeoEye Foundation imagery to study demolition patterns and prove that widespread human rights abuses had indeed taken place in Porta Farm, Zimbabwe, where an entire community was destroyed.
