Textron’s RemoteView Now Available as a Cloud-Based Solution in RVcloud 1.3

July 6th, 2017 by Susan Smith

Textron Systems Geospatial Solutions, announced the availability of the latest release of RVcloud, the web-based version of its geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) software, RemoteView.

Many of the same capabilities and features found in RemoteView are offered in RVcloud 1.3 as a cloud-based solution. RVcloud offers a broad set of features designed so users can view and analyze imagery in an easy-to-use web application. Users are able to interact with full-resolution, geo-referenced imagery within an intuitive interface.

Core electronic light table capabilities offered previously by RVcloud are now extended in RVcloud 1.3 with the additional abilities afforded by a cloud solution. Now, users can perform change analysis, viewing and comparing up to eight images simultaneously with mosaic, two color multi-view, blend and other analysis techniques. A new external overview window provides context and an additional way to navigate imagery.

RVcloud 1.3 is offered as an upgrade to RemoteView for the military. This release responds to the Pentagon’s effort to move more services, applications, functions and storage systems to a cloud-based architecture. Coupled with this is the DOD’s initiative to integrate more commercial IT systems and move more Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS) functionality to the cloud.

Textron Systems Geospatial Solutions Director of Integrated Solutions Matt Morris, spoke with GISCafe Voice about the new solution:

GISCafe Voice: What percentage of your existing customer base want to move to the cloud? Are there new users you expect to entice with this release?

Many of our customers are interested in the value of a cloud based imagery exploitation solution and we are experiencing a number of key customers making the switch to RVcloud. In addition, we are also seeing a growing number of new commercial, government, defense and intelligence customers interested in evaluating RVcloud to help them quickly understand what is happening on the ground so they can make informed and reliable decisions, quickly.

GISCafe Voice: Is this a subscription-based release?

Yes, Textron Systems Geospatial Solutions offers an RVcloud subscription.

GISCafe Voice: Will RemoteView software still be available?

Yes, we will continue to provide our customers a thick client solution; however, many of our customers also appreciate the option to integrate a thin client solution into their architecture as well.

GISCafe Voice How will the cloud benefit users of core electronic light tables?

RVcloud enables organizations to transform the way in which they deliver geospatial analysis capabilities by centralizing the administration, dynamically scaling in response to changing load on the system, streamlining workflows, simplifying support while still easily supporting those users in high and low bandwidth environments.  The resulting benefit to organizations is that they can quickly realize a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to competitive desktop based environments.

GISCafe Voice: How does RVcloud 1.3 interact with other popular softwares and geospatial products, such as Esri ArcGIS, and is there a need for it to be interoperable?

RVcloud is designed as a web-based imagery exploitation service that can be quickly integrated with any geospatial data management and discovery system.  We currently have RVcloud integrated with a number of mainstream geospatial data discovery systems including our GeoCatalog enterprise product and there is a lot of activity in integrating RVcloud into our partner’s workflows to bring advanced exploitation and analytics capabilities to those that have not had access to it in the past.

From company materials: RVcloud 1.3 delivers easy-to-use tools for creating graphic feature overlays. Its software application programming interface enables enterprise integration, including the ability to drive the image viewport and to import and export graphic features.

Newly added product creation support expedites assessments using Microsoft®PowerPoint® templates that are readily tailored to meet customer needs. A file browser has been added for organizations that do not require sophisticated data discovery systems. RVcloud 1.3 further extends the wide range of previously supported file formats with enhanced support for national technical means data.
