Pat Kannar, Director of Product Marketing, Dell Precision, talked about the release of the Dell Precision M3800 ultra thin and light 15-inch workstation that represents the last product in their portfolio line of ultra workstations. Kannar said this is the first thin and light workstation in the market.
In a conversation with John Fisher, CEO of Canadian-based DMTI Spatial, we discussed that company’s acquisition by mailroom solutions provider, Neopost. According to the press release, Neopost is progressively building a portfolio of new activities to enhance its offering and support its clients’ needs in areas of Customer Communications Management, Data Quality and Shipping Solutions, including logistics and traceability. Neopost has a direct presence in 30 countries, with 6,000 employees and annual sales of €1.1 billion in 2012. Its products and services are sold in more than 90 countries.
Neopost has been growing a software division around data quality for the past several years, and were looking for a company that had deep location expertise to add to the mix. They approached DMTI Spatial and they began working together, and eventually Neopost decided to acquire the location based data quality solutions company.

The effects of the partial government shutdown already can be felt in the geospatial community. With no agreement from Congress on a government funding bill, the shutdown not only affected federal employees but also contractors that work for government agencies. The shutdown impacts almost all federal agencies, including those with strong ties to the geospatial community such as the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

TerraGo Vision Platform
TerraGo has been emerging from an intense period of investment in new technologies, and have more than doubled investment in R&D. They have introduced new products across the whole product line. In-Q-Tel, the investment arm of the intelligence community, is the umbrella company of TerraGo. About a year ago TerraGo acquired Geosemble a sister In-Q-Tel company. Geosemble’s product lines such as GeoXRay, MacStrata have been integrated into the TerraGo portfolio.
Recalling Intergraph’s long history in hardware, servers and desktop software solutions, this iOS and Android based app may seem like a departure for the company, although it is very much a sign of the times. Intergraph has launched Intergraph Mobile MapWorks, an iOS and Android tablet-based app for viewing, editing and updating field asset information in real-time. It can be downloaded from Apple’s iTunes and the Google Play app stores. Field asset information can be accessed easily through mobile apps like this one, with very intuitive interfaces. Local government professionals use tablets as a matter of course in their field work, and find this type of application to be a perfect fit.
