GIS in 2014 is Simpler and Cheaper
January 7th, 2014 by Matt Sheehan
True: GIS in 2014 is simpler and cheaper.
Why? Cloud services and low cost (mobile) hardware.
Simple? Let others host and maintain while you focus on the solution.
Our conclusion from conversations over 2013 was that many still see GIS as this complex system. They have nightmares remembering GIS technology choices, licensing fees, tuning/maintaining/upgrading servers, publishing data. But their thinking had still to move forward.
GIS Simpler and Cheaper
In 2014 we predict, more will realize GIS is now simple. The complexity is hidden behind the scenes, when using cloud based platforms such as ArcGIS Online or GISCloud. Data publishing is simple. Styling, and creating map mash ups easy. With data which is easy to access and generate; we can all get focused on the problems and new solutions.
GIS solution providers like WebMapSolutions take a 3 pronged approach:
1) Prepare the data: converts, clean, consolidate
2) Choose the most appropriate cloud based platform (and there are now many)
3) Build Web and mobile (complimentary) solutions
Cross platform and cross device – PC, Mac, smartphone and tablet – with non GIS workflows is our solution focus. Check out our 7 Step Guide to getting your GIS project rolling.
We are excited as a company about 2014. As new cloud based GIS services roll out, we continue to expand our client solution sets.
