In this talk (which was recorded as a dry run for a seminar) Rich presents a very brief introduction to the Python programming language from the point of view of someone wanting to perform data manipulation on geographic data. He outlines what a GIS is (essentially the meeting point between computers and map-making) and cover some issues to do with raster data on the Earth’s surface.
He covers the importance of choosing your sampling wisely, how to generate contoured heigh plots, faux 3d-shared relief maps, slope and aspect plots. Then there is a discussion about some simple de-noising strategies for freely accessible data and investigate a strange phenomenon in Oxfordshire.
Examining 1 Day of Severe Storms with GIS, All Sections. Using ArcGIS for Desktop (with some online data) to examine the spatial and temporal aspects of one day of tornadoes, windstorms, and hailstorms, including the tornado at the St Louis Airport.
Investigating Tornadoes in USA Using ArcGIS Online, Part 1. What are the spatial and temporal patterns of tornadoes, at different scales? Explore these and other questions through this video. An accompanying lesson and set of data exists on ArcLessons and on www.argis.com (ArcGIS Online), respectively.
Stewart Bruce of Washington College gave this tutorial as part of the GT101 course. This demo of how to make an actual layout in ArcGIS ArcMap will show you some tips and ticks to good layouts by running through a complete layout exercise. More information on our GT-101 course can be found at http://geoworkshops.org and more information on the Washington College GIS program can be found at http://gis.washcoll.edu
A demonstration of Freeance Mobile on iPhone and Androids. Freeance Mobile lets you create and manage custom GIS mapping apps for the public on iPhones, Androids and BlackBerrys. It lets you create custom forms, map controls and searches. It lets you build different maps and map tools to meet the needs of different user groups. It also lets you build GPS enabled forms for the varied field data collection work in your organization.
