Newmont Mining Corporation, the second largest gold producer in the world, recently selected ESRI as its GIS software provider. The global enterprise license agreement will enable Newmont Mining to deploy ESRI's ArcGIS products in a GIS architecture that is open, scalable, and standards-based and that will integrate with and leverage existing Newmont Mining IT resources at its operations on five continents.
The ESRI global enterprise license replaces Newmont Mining's previous GIS, offering greater opportunity for more integrated and robust applications. ESRI products will allow the company to create distributed data repositories, which will replicate data from central servers. The company's data will be accessed via an intranet portal by a wide variety of employees from GIS professionals to casual users.
