Maps have always been a crucial component in successful warfare, and it was during successful warfare that ambulance logistics was born. Napoleon’s chief surgeon Dominique Jean Larrey was the father of the first system designed to treat injured soldiers in the field and transport them to medical facilities. Thus, it is safe to say that maps are an essential part of any effective emergency medical services (EMS) system.
