PartnerRe had multiple requirements to further improve the effi ciency and consistency of
capital allocation and exposure control with respect to natural catastrophe risk. Other goals
included faster facilitation with more accurate postevent loss estimation and enhanced reporting
capabilities including a geographic (by peril zone) portfolio and market analysis.
Exposure controlensuring that risk accumulation is properly managed and therefore that
capacity is allocated in the most benefi cial wayis a critical function within the reinsurance
industry. It is essential to the stability and reliability offered by the industry to its clients.
Increased accuracy in exposure control allows more capital to be deployed with the same
confi dence level. Postevent loss estimation is also a primary requirement of managers, clients,
investors, and the media. PartnerRe wanted a solution that would provide rapid, fl exible, visual
access to exposures while improving postevent loss estimation by enabling the overlay of an
event’s geographic spread and intensity against these exposures.
