Ever since the first orbital Mars missions in the 1970s, imagery of Mars has generated a great deal of scientific activity. This has often been centered around apparent geological evidence for ice and water activity on the Martian surface. Recent availability of very high resolution Martian images has permitted detailed analysis of a wide range of potentially ice and water-related landforms.
