In the past, the Malaysian Department of Survey and Mapping (JUPEM) relied on CAD technologies to publish hardcopy maps for public requirements. When the need for GIS data increased tremendously, JUPEM, as the authority in survey and mapping, took a leading role in providing spatial data.
