Featured Paper by Robert Lorimer
Many GNSS systems available today incorporate IT and Communication Technologies. This paper describes a simple market model (derived from Ackroyd & Lorimer, “Global Navigation”, Lloyds of London Press, 1990,94) to describe the convergence of GNSS, IT and Communications Technology.
The three main technology domains described above are combined in a variety of ways to give a broad range of products and services. For example hand-held GPS devices collecting geospatial information which is used in a GIS is an example of convergence between GNSS and IT. A “dumb” GPS device transmitting location on a fixed schedule is a combination of GNSS and Communications.
