The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) produces a variety of maps for many different applications. SHA’s map repository was converted from MicroStation V7 to ArcGIS 9.1 environment. SHA also implemented the Transportation Spatial Database (TSD) which utilizes ArcObjects, Oracle, SDE and ArcGIS to manage and streamline the data production and map production process. Unfortunately, the MSV7 text did not seamlessly convert to an ArcGIS environment and did not match the updated and corrected centerline base. SHA needed to develop a new annotation layer for over 450 maps by the end of 2007.
