Financial Management Service (FMS) is a bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury. Acting as the U.S. government’s money manager, FMS provides centralized payment, collection and reporting services for the government. Staffed by approximately 2,100 career civil servants, FMS disburses more than $1.5 trillion in federal payments annually, including Social Security, veterans’ benefits and income tax refunds, to more than 100 million people. FMS also collects nearly $2.4 trillion each year in federal revenues, oversees a daily cash flow of more than $58 billion, provides centralized debt collection services to most federal agencies and provides government-wide accounting and reporting.
