Two years ago the Hernando County Florida Property Appraiser's office assembled a group of GIS Stakeholders composed of county, municipal, and state government offices and agencies including the local Sheriff. The greatest common factor that affected every department and agency in one form or another was the county's addressing system, particularly pertaining to computer aided dispatch and E-911. The previous system had not kept pace with technological advances, was not centrally maintained, and could not be accessed electronically by interested departments and agencies. Also, the privately purchased addressing data used by the Sheriff was out of date and inconsistent. The Property Appraiser's Office selected 3001 Inc. to migrate legacy data, create address point data, create geocoded centerline attributes from existing address data, and establish centerline directions in ArcGIS. As a result, the Sheriff's Office now has access to current address information increasing the effectiveness of its E-911 system.
