Due to the large number of buildings in East Berlin and project time constraints, photogrammetric extraction was immediately deemed as being too time consuming and costly.
virtualcitySYSTEMSGmbH was therefore selected to perform 3D building reconstruction from Berlin’s LiDAR data using their BuildingReconstruction software. All LoD2 building models are untextured geo-referenced geometry. Due to their accuracy, they form an excellent basis for applying facade texture using aerial oblique imagery.
3D City Model specialist virtualcitySYSTEMS successfully finalized 3D reconstruction of 244,000 buildings from airborn LiDAR in an area totalling aprox. 498 sqkm.
