  • Mobile Solution Utilized Across Organization with an Array of Benefits

January 11, 2012 -- Sandy, UT — Using Cityworks in the field has improved analysis and preventative planning at the City of Woodland, California. Built for staff on the go, Cityworks Anywhere has enabled Woodland staff with the necessary tools to make more timely and efficient decisions in real time and provided enhanced GIS and increased efficiency. In addition, Woodland’s CCTV inspection program, which utilizes an integration between Cityworks and I.T. pipes, has resulted in many benefits.

Cityworks Anywhere is used in maintenance by an operations staff to manage the city’s sanitary sewer, stormwater, water, electric, signs, signals, pavement markings, parks, trees, and wastewater treatment plant. Staff can create, edit, and complete work orders and service requests anytime while working remotely, including after hours on emergency calls. Labor, materials, and equipment are added to work orders at the time work is performed, adding efficiency and accuracy to data. The system is deployed on laptop computers with internal mobile broadband cards and VPN connectivity.

“Cityworks allows our field staff to have real-time access to service requests, work orders, and GIS inventory assets,” stated Daniel Hewitt, GIS Specialist, Public Works, City of Woodland. “This enables them to enter labor, material, and equipment in a single instance, making the City more efficient and information more accurate, helping us move towards a paperless workflow process. We’ve found Cityworks facilitates analysis and preventive planning, enabling us to move away from our previous reactionary maintenance model. In addition, we allow our end users the ability to edit GIS attributes in the field and submit redlines, keeping our GIS up-to-date. With our GIS features constantly analyzed and verified for accuracy, GIS a valuable asset to the entire organization.”

Woodland’s CCTV inspection program utilizes I.T.pipes with Cityworks, reducing observation errors during inspections through attribute data validation and observation collection. Inspection data is consolidated into a single database with the inspection values pushed into back into GIS.

“Our clients have used Cityworks in the field for a long time – since the beginning, in fact,” said Brian Haslam, President, Azteca Systems, Inc. “It’s not surprising to hear of Woodlands outstanding performance; they’re always among the top tier sites. As we move more and more into this age of mobile technology, Cityworks is designed to provide active users a whole new range of possibilities to leverage their data in managing out world. From laptops to tablets to smartphones, Cityworks leads the way, enabling our users to literally run with its benefits.”
