  • Optech Inaugurates Its Free Traveling
    Seminar Series

Optech has launched a new worldwide seminar series that will be offered in a city near you. The inaugural seminar (held last month in São Paulo, Brazil) was very successful, and has set the stage for those to follow. While focusing on how to obtain the highest return on investment from the latest sensor technologies, this highly informative seminar explored sensor integration in detail while providing tips for optimized results. This is the perfect venue for contractors or sub-contractors of airborne or ground-based services to learn more about obtaining the most from these systems. Seminars are planned throughout the year in North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia. For more information, see  Optech Events.

  • ILSC Abstract Deadline Extended, Keynote Speakers Announced
Optech has extended the deadline for the submission of abstracts for the 3rd Imaging and Lidar Solutions Conference (ILSC) to April 26. Meanwhile, ILSC's keynote speakers have been announced: Mr. Brian Doody, CEO of Teledyne DALSA will discuss Teledyne Technologies' recent acquisition of Optech and general trends in image sensor technology, and Mr. Lawrie Jordan, Director of Imagery for Esri, will discuss how evolving technologies are allowing users to make real-time GIS products and what Optech's partnership with Esri means for the future. For more information, see Optech ILSC 2013

  • Advanced Training for Orion ALTM Customers
Optech Orion ALTM customers now have the opportunity to gain more in-depth knowledge of their systems as Optech Services launches a series of advanced Orion training courses. With the help of this detailed customer training program led by experienced Optech trainers, users will become more familiar with their Orion equipment and be able to facilitate the servicing of their systems in conjunction with Optech Services. The first two levels of training are already available, and a third level is planned for Autumn 2013.

  • New CS-6500 Aerial Digital Camera Released
Optech has announced the release of the CS-6500 aerial camera system. A direct advance from the Optech CS-4800 camera, the CS-6500 inherits the CS-4800's robust and proven design while adding new features and enhanced integration with Optech lidars and cameras. The highly efficient CS-6500 offers a fast cycle time, an electronic shutter, panchromatic or color CCD sensors, interchangeable lenses, and a metric-quality data set.

  • Learning with ILRIS in Arkansas, USA
Ron Harrison of American Lidar recently teamed up with students at a local high school to survey a 1500-ft drainage tunnel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Using an Optech ILRIS Terrestrial Laser Scanner, the students surveyed the entire tunnel with four scans, and used the resulting point cloud to create a model of the tunnel with their 3D printer. The model, plus their analysis of the slope, water velocity and cross-section, will be presented to the city to assist with the tunnel's renovation and to prevent future flash flooding.
