Aerospike Announces Latest Version of Its High-Performance NoSQL Database

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Jan 28, 2016 -- Aerospike, the high-performance NoSQL database company recognized for speed at scale leadership, today announced it has released version 3.7 of its NoSQL database. With new features that enable richer, more personalized applications, more efficient operations and greater stability across public and private clouds, Aerospike is advancing the development of mission-critical, transactional applications that can scale to millions of transactions per second.

New core functionalities of the release include:

  • Geospatial indexing to bring more immediacy and physical reference points to applications;
  • Streamlined list operations that make it possible to change data in a list directly on the server and remove the need to transfer data in order to manipulate the data set;
  • Cluster stability advances that eliminate disruption from cloud provider infrastructure changes or ongoing maintenance; and
  • For developers, the recently announced Async C Client 4.0 provides pipelining capabilities that provide dramatic improvements in efficiency when working over WAN networks.

"Our mobile app needs to operate at lightning speed for us to compete in the fast-moving consumer goods industry, and Aerospike's new geospatial feature really wins hands down on speed compared to our current MongoDB infrastructure," said Rakesh Reddy, CEO of Anya Soft Pvt Ltd, which is developing an era defining retail intelligence tool. "For our app server, we need to maintain a 200 millisecond latency guarantee, and Aerospike ensures consistent and reliable performance as we scale out our applications and boost the customer experience across mobile devices."

Modern applications for both startups and global enterprises require a high-performance database that can manage and process increasingly greater volumes, velocities and varieties of data with no performance degradation as an application scales. As the first Enterprise NoSQL database, Aerospike has been architected for the digital enterprise, providing data integrity, high-availability, predictable performance and high-speed transactional capacity. Unlike alternative databases, Aerospike combines the persistence and caching layers into one -- providing DRAM performance for the price of NAND Flash -- to eliminate server sprawl with a cost-effective, simplified approach that provides speed at scale for mission-critical applications.

"Aerospike 3.7 builds on our core mission of speed at scale by providing a set of features that can enable rich, context-aware applications," said Brian Bulkowski, Aerospike CTO and co-founder. "This sets the stage for future development and additional features that meet the needs of our users and provide the best developer experience possible."

Aerospike 3.7 Highlights

Enhanced Geospatial Support - Aerospike can now store GeoJSON objects and execute various queries, allowing an application to track rapidly changing geospatial objects or simply ask the question "what's near me." Google's S2 library and Geo Hashing are used to encode and index these points and regions. The following types of queries are supported:

  • Points within a Region
  • Points within a Radius
  • Regions a Point is in

Server-Side List Operations - Aerospike can store and retrieve lists and maps, and is now extending the ability to directly manipulate lists via a set of commands on the server, while maintaining predictable performance at scale, regardless of the size of the data set. List manipulation features now include:

  • Fast, efficient modification of list structures
  • Improved concurrency of access
  • Native API access in each client driver

Adaptive Clustering - Aerospike has been engineered with new algorithmic enhancements to improve cluster stability for environments such as Google Compute Engine and Amazon EC2, eliminating disruption caused by a cloud provider's infrastructure changes or ongoing maintenance, and thus providing greater application availability.

Async C Client 4.0 - The latest version of the Async C Client provides native support for the libev and libuv events frameworks and provides async operations for:

  • Single record operations
  • Scans
  • Batch operations
  • Queries

This maintains Aerospike's currency with the leading async frameworks, providing intuitive APIs to enable building high-velocity async applications, processing & event engines.

Aerospike 3.7 also brings to bear dozens of other new capabilities that make it faster and easier for developers and IT teams to create and manage innovative new applications, including:

  • Improved statistics for migrations
  • Improved management for data migration
  • Option to use local time in log messages
  • Ability to add stop-writes threshold on a per set basis
  • Option to include or exclude LDT data in scans
  • Ability to dynamically change the unicast heartbeat addresses
