SAMTECH To Release SAMCEF For Rotors

Liege, Belgium, March 2005. SAMTECH, the European technology leader for the development of Integrated CAE Solutions, announces today the launch of SAMCEF for Rotors, its new Professional Solution for the computer aided preliminary design and detailed verification of rotating machines using Finite Element Method.

With SAMCEF for Rotors, SAMTECH is extending its suite of CAD Based CAE professional solutions driven by SAMCEF Field to Rotor Dynamics. SAMCEF for Rotors is a vertical application dedicated to the numerical simulation of any rotating mechanical system and addressing a wide range of industrial sectors e.g. turbo-machines, power stations, machine tools, aerospace applications, aircraft engines, naval gas turbines, electric generators, medical equipment ,� The first release will be demonstrated soon at upcoming MICAD 2005 exhibition in Paris (5-7 of April 2005).

In the past, the mechanical design of rotating machines was mostly based on simple preliminary design approaches using rigid disks assumption and 1D beam formulations for the shafts. and rigid disks assumption. These approaches are limited to conceptual design and are clearly not sufficient for the detailed and precise evaluation of rotating machines in working conditions. SAMCEF for Rotors offers now an integrated access to multiple modeling fidelity levels (1D, 2D and 3D) from a modern unified simulation environment.

SAMCEF for Rotors enables users to easily and quickly create a complete model of the rotating machine within the unique SAMCEF Field V5 environment, based on CAD geometries that can be imported from well-known commercial CAD systems. Direct import of existing FE models from external FEA codes (e.g. Nastran, Ansys, ...) is also easily performed.

SAMCEF for Rotors is specifically dedicated to the dynamic analysis of rotating mechanical systems comprising fixed (stator) and rotating (rotor) components as well as linking devices (bearings, bushings, transmission systems, gears, ...). Various modeling fidelities are possible from the simplest beam 1D approach to full 3D (volume or shell) models, including axi-symmetric or multi-harmonic 2D formulations. Hybrid models combining different fidelity levels are also authorized. Classical reduction techniques (Craigh Bampton or Guyan methods) into super-elements can be considered to save CPU time consumption.

SAMCEF for Rotors aims more precisely at predicting the critical speeds and overall stability of the rotating system and analyzing its harmonic and time transient responses to unbalances (frequency and time domains), accounting for centrifugal and gyroscopic effects.

SAMCEF for Rotors analyses results include mode shapes, strains, stresses in any structural components, time and frequency responses (displacements, strains, stresses, �) but also CAMPBELL diagrams giving the evolution of eigen-frequencies or damping coefficients as functions of angular velocity, �
