Layton Graphics Spins Out Mapping Software Company; TerraGo(TM) Technologies Helps Customers Share GIS Data Across the Enterprise

ATLANTA—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 19, 2005— Layton Graphics, an image and information management company specializing in engineering and geospatial information systems (GIS) data announced today that its software division, Layton GeoScience, has been separated from the parent company and TerraGo Technologies has been formed. The new company will be able to better focus on the specific needs of its GIS customers and more easily attract investments for expansion of sales, marketing and product development.

TerraGo Technologies is the only provider of mapping solutions that allow GIS professionals to share complex, georegistered geospatial data with non-technical professionals across the enterprise in the Adobe(R) Portable Document Format (PDF). MAP2PDF(TM), the TerraGo product line, is available in multiple versions for major GIS applications and Adobe Acrobat(R) 7.0 software.

MAP2PDF extends the value of GIS data by allowing customers to create and publish layered georegistered maps, known as GeoPDFs(TM). Users simply create a map and use MAP2PDF to export the data to a GeoPDF. GIS professionals can then distribute GeoPDFs and users utilize free Adobe Reader(R) software to view maps, turn layers on and off, query attributes, display coordinates and create redlines and notes. In Adobe Acrobat 7.0 software, changes can be exported to .shp files for review and consumption back into the master GIS database, all with no need for non-GIS professionals to have GIS applications, databases or knowledge of how they work.

"TerraGo's products give us the ability to share a wealth of valuable geospatial data and related information with our staff as well as our clients," says David W. Baraniak, P.E., president, HRG Technology Group and past president of the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA). "Since MAP2PDF generates PDF files automatically and leverages Adobe's popular format, just about everyone with free access to their tools can use the product right on their desktop. That greatly simplifies the process of making GIS data available and usable for both novice and professional mapping users."

TerraGo Technologies chose Adobe PDF as its publishing platform because of its widespread adoption, giving their customers the ability to quickly and easily take advantage of MAP2PDF functionality. "Odds are, just about every non-GIS professional who would want or need access to enterprise geospatial data already has Adobe Reader installed," says James Davis, TerraGo president and CEO. "By utilizing this format, we are able to help our customers fully leverage the treasure trove of GIS data their organizations own."

"The need to accurately and securely share complex geospatial data is important for so many enterprises from military operations to large public works projects," said Ivan Koon, senior vice president of the Intelligent Document Business Unit at Adobe Systems. "The combination of TerraGo's mapping solutions and the ubiquity and functionality of Adobe PDF and Adobe Acrobat has created a robust GIS solution that can provide anyone, anywhere with full access to rich geospatial assets."

MAP2PDF versions are available for download from the TerraGo Technologies company store at Pricing starts at $395.
