Lancaster, Pennsylvania (June 2, 2008) – geographIT was awarded a contract by Bucks County PA to develop software requirements and to prototype GIS tools and supporting data for the optimal dispatch order of ambulance squad response times to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) boxes. The project involves using best available data sources to demonstrate how the ESRI Network Analyst extension can determine the dispatch order of the 30 ambulance squads nearest to each EMS box, identify EMS boxes where variability in dispatch order indicates a need to redefine EMS box boundaries, and identify EMS boxes that statistically fall outside of the normal distribution of dispatch times for the County. The results of the study and specifications will be used to budget for the development of custom software and enhancements to GIS datasets that will enable Bucks County to plan for and organize ambulance squad responses to medical emergencies within the County.
