  • Laguna Hills, CA - July 24, 2009: Spatial Wave, Incorporated has worked with Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) to implement Spatial Wave, Inc.’s Field Mapplet/ Underground Service Alert (FM/USA) solution. FM/USA provides full support of MISS DIG workflow. The MISS DIG process is also known as "one-call" or "call before you dig" workflow to safeguard the public, environment, property and utility infrastructures. Field Mapplet / USA is Spatial Wave, Inc.’s systematic management of the one-call ticket workflow. It provides for rule based filtering of tickets which eliminates unnecessary locates and optimizes locator assignment.

Field Mapplet/USA receives Detroit Water and Sewerage Department’s one-call tickets from the MISS DIG center and utilizes spatially enabled rules, allocating tickets into queues and determining proximity to DWSD facilities using GIS technology. DWSD’s locators upload completed tickets and download new tickets to/from District’s server similar to checking emails. Locators can view ticket information, optimize routing, enter actions and comments and are able to quickly zoom to the ticket location and view detailed street or facility maps on their GPS enabled tablet PC. All ticket information is stored in a database for archival, querying and reporting.

Field Mapplet/USA provides DWSD with a single application framework to manage MISS DIG tickets from origination to archive. Improvements in the efficiency of the MISS DIG workflow will support the demands on the locators within the Department.
