  • Richmond, VA – October 29, 2009—Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial consulting and applications development, was recently selected by Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation (AHEDC) to develop a comprehensive economic development and business assistance website.  The Alleghany Highlands Regional group of localities includes the City of Covington and Alleghany County, with a Labor Shed of six counties in Virginia and West Virginia.

The new website will serve as a marketing and business development tool for new and existing business and industry. The site will profile not only the advantageous business environment but also the picturesque vistas of the Alleghany Mountains and the many attributes that make the region an exceptional location to work and live.

To facilitate economic development and attract new businesses to the area, the portal will provide business assistance tools including a Virtual Business Incubator (VBI).   The VBI will guide new business owners through all of the steps required to start a new business in the area.  The website will also function as a single source for businesses to obtain local and regional community information; social networking, workforce, demographic and labor data; available properties and buildings; informative tutorials, business assistance and contacts for starting a business and other topics pertinent to the region and business community.

In addition to the Virtual Business Incubator, the AHEDC website will include Site Logistics, a site selection tool developed by Timmons Group.  Site LoGIStics assists businesses, real estate professionals and site location specialists seeking critical data to identify profitable locations.  By integrating detailed site and building information with key demographic, economic, and consumer data, Site LoGIStics augments the site selection process. Information on specific commercial sites and buildings can be retrieved quickly without accessing numerous sources. With Site LoGIStics, these professionals and business leaders have access to important data from one convenient, web-based source.

The site selection solution will leverage the new ESRI Business Analyst Online APIs to create trade areas (rings, drive time & donuts) around a specific location and for the creation of demographic reports based on a trade area, an arbitrary area specified by a polygon, or a standard geographical area such as a county or a ZIP Code.
