BELMONT, MA September 22, 2010 – ViewPoint GIS announced today that the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, the second-largest city in New England, has officially selected ViewPermit™ for a new GIS-centric online electronic permit management system.
ViewPermit will allow residents and businesses to apply, pay for, and receive building and other permits and licenses online or at conveniently placed kiosks in various City of Worcester buildings. They can also track the status of their permits as they move through a paperless approval process. City departments will use the system to manage permit and license review, approval, and inspections processes electronically. The City plans to use ViewPermit in all permitting and licensing entities.
Worcester City Manager Michael V. O’Brien said “this will add ease, simplicity and timeliness to the permit process. Customers will no longer be required to walk permits from department to department for sign-off. All will be addressed and coordinated electronically. “
Added Mr. O’Brien, “We continue to seek and implement improvements to all of our City customer service functions. In order to meet or exceed customer expectations and to compensate for our reduced work force, we must look for a more efficient means of response, such as the use of technology and automation.”
“We are very excited about working with Worcester,” said Nasser Hajo, ViewPoint GIS Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “They have a clear vision of how to leverage technology on a city-wide basis to improve service and reduce costly delays. ViewPermit will strengthen efforts by the City to streamline operations while enhancing services to citizens and businesses.”
ViewPermit automatically manages the permit application process and review workflow for planning, conservation, zoning, building, public works, fire and health departments, in addition to a wide range of local licensing needs. Its many advanced features, such as embedded GIS, enable municipal officials to seamlessly track, control, monitor, schedule and report on all elements of permit and license issuance. It significantly reduces processing time and greatly enhances access to information while dramatically improving customer service for citizens, developers and businesses.
