City Moves from Paper Based System to Cityworks and Reaping the Benefits
October 28, 2010-- Sandy, UT — The City of Saco, Maine, is experiencing improved work management as a result of its implementation of Cityworks by Azteca Systems, Inc., the leading provider of GIS-centric management solutions. Cityworks has become the central part of Saco’s asset management strategy while the City prepares to utilize the software in other areas such as emergency preparedness for FEMA reporting and budgeting purposes.
Moving from paper-based methods of documenting work performed throughout the City and causing them to fall behind in their processes, Saco began looking into a variety of software packages. They selected Cityworks as the solution best suited to meet their needs for the present and future. The City began by utilizing the Cityworks’ Service Request function. Requests for service are entered in the system and an email function allows staff to immediately respond to customer (citizen) requests. Pleased with improvements they experienced, Saco then moved to creating Work Orders on assets in the Wastewater collection system and Treatment Plant, managing scheduled maintenance such as monthly inspection and service on pumps and sewer line flushing. Work Orders are also being created for work being done at the Water Treatment Plant. In the beginning of 2010, Cityworks was expanded into all other divisions of Public Works.
“Cityworks has become an integral piece of Saco’s asset management plan,” stated Doug Howard, Environmental Utilities Supervisor at the City of Saco. “It is the central piece of what we call our Customer Communication Plan. History on our assets is being tracked and customers are kept informed on the status of their requests. Cityworks has been instrumental in organizing Saco’s work flow and with the combination of GIS and Cityworks, our data is organized and maintained in one spot and is easy to access. The ease of use and ability to configure Cityworks meets the needs of the City now and will continue to well into the future.”
The next step in Saco’s plans for Cityworks is to utilize the program for tracking major storm events including snow storms, ice storms, and major rain events. Using Cityworks for emergency/disaster management will make FEMA reporting for the City easier and more efficient. In addition, the City plans to use Cityworks for budgeting purposes. As more and more data is stored and maintained in the system, Cityworks will help justify budget numbers.
“The City of Saco is a solid client who recognized the benefits of Cityworks from the get go,” comments Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems. “Saco has come a long way and have seen great improvements in their business management processes. Cityworks continually brings our clients into a new world of asset management with a product that is easy-to-use and proven to make tasks more efficient.”
