  • July 05, 2011 -- Bluesky and Blom UK have worked together to release a stunning ultra high-resolution aerial photomap of the 2011 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. Captured on the afternoon of Sunday 26th June by Blom UK the 6cm resolution imagery shows the entire site as 150,000 festival goers basked in the summer sun on one of the hottest days of the year so far and enjoyed music from Paul Simon on the main stage. The images are available to view and purchase from the Bluesky online Mapshop ( www.bluesky-world.com) together with aerial photography for the whole of England, Wales and most of Scotland as well as height models and other layers of geographic data.

“We decided to capture the festival as it such a significant event in Somerset, the local area of Blom UK,” commented Kim Wall, Product Manager for Blom UK. “Our offices are located near by and many of us were taken along by our parents in the early years and now attend on a regular basis – in fact everyone who attended this year from our team has been able to locate themselves within the imagery.”

Rachel Tidmarsh, Managing Director of Bluesky added, “We already manage Blom’s historic archive, that dates back to 1919 under the Aerofilms brand, and resell it through our OldAerialPhotos website so it was an obvious choice for them to choose Bluesky to host and resell the Glastonbury image.”

The Glastonbury aerial photomap was captured between 1700 and 1730 on the afternoon of Sunday 26th June 2011. Flying at a height of 3,500 feet Blom covered the 8 kilometre square site and created the MetroHD imagery to a resolution of 6cm.

“The MetroHD™ brand is usually reserved for ultra high resolution imagery of urban areas,” continued Wall. “Although Glastonbury would not normally fall into the category for the duration of the festival it becomes one of the largest ‘urban’ areas in Somerset and so for that reason we felt it was important to capture it in detail.”

Visitors to Bluesky’s online map shop can search for the Glastonbury imagery by simply entering a postcode, place or geographic co-ordinate, before being shown an overview image of their chosen area. They can then zoom in or out, or pan around to refine their search and find themselves or their tent.

The Bluesky site already offers visitors access to most up to date aerial photography covering every inch of England and Wales plus significant parts of Scotland supplemented by additional layers of geographic information, including LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data, Digital Surface and Terrain Models (DSM and DTM), Colour Infrared (CIR) mapping, which are all available for instant download.
