February 27, 2012 -- Wind Lake Solutions, Inc., (WLS), Mukwonago, Wisconsin, is pleased to announce that FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) is in the process of implementing WLS’ SPANS™ (Spatially-enabled Permitting and Notification System) within its Cleveland Electric Illuminating (CEI) subsidiary. With this implementation, SPANS will be in use by all three (3) of FE’s Ohio operating companies. SPANS was implemented at Ohio Edison (OE) in 2008 and Toledo Edison (TE) in early 2011.
SPANS is a hosted web-based solution designed to electronically and centrally manage inter-company communications associated with inter-company pole attachment projects. WLS completed SPANS configuration changes to support CEI’s requirements for management of jointly-owned poles in January.
Gary Miller, Vice-President of Wind Lake Solutions said “We’re incredibly pleased that FE’s successful SPANS implementations at OE and TE will now be complemented by its use at CEI. In partnership with CEI we worked through an interesting set of challenges associated with CEI’s joint-ownership model and we’re certain that CEI and its joint ownership and third-party attachment partner companies will immediately begin to gain the significant benefits that SPANS implementation provides.”
