Agency9 powers Berlin in 3D on the Web

March 07, 2012 -- The leading Web 3D GIS Company, Agency9 powers the brand new 3D web map of Berlin. Berlin Partner – the investment agency arm of Germany’s capital – today launches a web-based solution for distributing the 3D city model of Berlin. The new 3D platform is unveiled by Berlin Partner at this year’s MIPIM in Cannes, one of the most influential exhibitions for the international real estate industry in the world.

Berlin’s 3D city model – perhaps the largest 3D city model ever transported to Google Earth – is famous alone for its sheer size: over 560,000 buildings with façade images. Upon discovering the capability of Agency9 3DMaps platform, Berlin Partner decided to launch this impressive amount of 3D data on the web. The web maps are primarily used as a decision-making and presentation tool for potential investors. It plays a key role in helping companies find the right real estate and get a comprehensive overview of Berlin’s infrastructure through a clever combination of real-time 3D navigation and a sophisticated database of updated information about Berlin real estate and all relevant location-based standard information. This is another example of a progressive local government having moved their geospatial solution from Google Earth to Agency9 3DMaps platform.

-          We are proud to power the 3D mapping solution to the City of Berlin, and to increase the reach and interaction of Berlin’s maps. The Capital of Germany is one of Europe’s largest cities and their choice to use solutions powered by Agency9 is another confirmation of the excellence we strive to achieve, said Khashayar Farmanbar CEO at Agency9.

The solution – virtualcityMaps - is provided by virtualcitySYSTEMS GmbH, a leading systems integrator and provider of 3D geospatial projects and a valued partner of Agency9.  virtualcityMAPS, a web-based solution for distributing 2D and 3D data is powered by the Agency9 3DMaps Platform.

-          In Europe, many cities have created 3D city models over the last several years. This technology enables not only municipalities to distribute those models in an easy and efficient way, but represents an opportunity for all industries that utilize geospatial data – from utilities to transport to construction and surveying, observed Mr. Jung, virtualcitySYSTEM’s managing director.

3DMaps offers an open and customisable environment for delivering 3D geoportals quickly. It is unique in that it offers high performance real-time 3D on the web, without the need to install  specific plug-ins. Users are free to visualise any common map data and meta information in a map view.

-          We are convinced that the performance of Agency9’s technology will not only help Berlin Partner and its constituents better advise their clients, but represents the future of 3D city models. Gone are the days of proprietary technology where users had to install special software and plug-ins. Today, 3D city models can be accessed using a standard Internet browser”, remarked Håkan Engman, vice president Sales at Agency9.
