SpaceCurve Expands Big Data Development Team to Further Real-Time Geospatial Advantage

Intelligent Location-Based Services on Agenda

SEATTLE — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 3, 2012SpaceCurve, the creator of a Big Data geospatial-temporal database that addresses the growing demand for intelligent location-based services, today announced the expansion of its world-class development team. Industry veteran Charlie Barbour joins as senior vice president of development to manage and guide the company’s growing development resources. Hans-Martin Will also joins as senior member of the technical staff to help lead product architecture and design. Andrew Rogers, the founder of SpaceCurve, resumes his role as CTO and visionary and will continue to direct the design and creation of SpaceCurve’s groundbreaking new geospatial database and analytics technologies.

“SpaceCurve is gearing up to take on huge new market opportunities in geospatial and real-time data and analytics,” said John Slitz, CEO of SpaceCurve. “Charlie and Martin are the first of many accomplished Big Data scientists and engineers we plan to hire over the next year to build and launch our products.”

The SpaceCurve geospatial-temporal database is solving many of the limitations of current distributed database technologies and providing a platform for a new generation of graph analytics. SpaceCurve technologies will create real-time models of reality and awareness of complex ad hoc relationships in context from streams of geospatial, temporal, sensor network, social graph and other data.

Charlie brings more than 30 years of experience to SpaceCurve. He has successfully led development teams and delivered competitive technology products for many startups and public companies. Charlie’s expertise includes data analytics, database management, distributed systems, multiprocessing system architecture, services-oriented architecture, multi-tier architecture, multimedia, and agile development. He earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Northwestern University, completed coursework for an M.S.E.E. in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania, and completed the Stanford University Executive Seminar.

Martin joins SpaceCurve from Microsoft where he was software architect on the Amalga Life Sciences product, an advanced cloud-based eScience platform. Prior to Microsoft, Martin was senior director of genomics research and development at Rosetta Biosoftware, acquired by Microsoft in 2009, where he developed industry-leading bioinformatics data management and analytics solutions. Earlier in his career, he was architect and development manager for the TRADOS Internet business unit. Martin earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science in the field of computational geometry from ETH Zurich and a M.S. in Mathematics from University of Bonn.

About SpaceCurve

SpaceCurve is developing a Big Data geospatial-temporal database and graph analysis tools that create real-time models of reality. By continuously capturing, processing and analyzing geospatial, temporal, sensor network, social graph and other large data streams, and providing real-time actionable intelligence, SpaceCurve will enable innovations in location-based services, social applications, commodities, defense, emergency services and other markets. Unlike other relational, NoSQL and traditional databases that either handle scale or complexity, but not both, SpaceCurve’s new database and immersive analytics technologies address the growing demand for new geospatial applications and intelligent location-based services that current database technologies cannot handle.
