Spatial industry leaders to discuss ‘Open Spatial Data:Behind the Policy Challenge’ at Locate14 Conference panel session

A much anticipated session at Locate14 will be the panel discussion ‘Open Spatial Data - Behind the Policy Challenge’ held on Tuesday, 8 April.

The panel session will be chaired by Julian Carver, founding member of Open NZ and the panellists include: Mike Bradford, CEO of Landgate, Brett Bundock, Managing Director of Esri Australia, Drew Clark PSM, ANZLIC Chair and Ros Harvey, Founding Director of Sense-T.     

Mike Bradford, CEO of  Landgate

Mike joined Landgate in 2006 and was appointed to his current position in February 2007. He has experienced managing all aspects of the production and dissemination of land information products including topographic map production, remote sensing and geographic information systems. He has managed complex information technology projects including decision support systems within the Department of Defence and has experience in strategic planning, capability and project development, and technology management.   

Brett Bundock, Managing Director at  Esri Australia

Considered a market visionary and GIS expert, Brett's passion for spatial science has seen him build a career spanning more than three decades and four continents. As Managing Director of Esri Australia; Esri South East Asia; Esri Indonesia; Esri Malaysia and MapData Services, Brett is regarded as one of the Asia Pacific region's most influential contributors to the spatial industry. An avid supporter of various spatial industry associations and of the broader Esri user community, Brett has recently completed servicing two consecutive three-year terms as a Director on the Board of the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA).

Julian Carver, Founding Member of  Open NZ

Julian is a founding member of Open NZ, an organisation representing the open data community. In 2011, he worked for the Government Data and Information Reuse Secretariat to develop New Zealand's Declaration on Open and Transparent Government.

From April 2011 - June 2012, Julian led the establishment of information services at the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA), as acting Chief Information Officer.

Drew Clarke PSM, Chair, ANZLIC 

Drew was appointed to the Department of Communications in March 2013 with a portfolio that includes the ABC, SBS, Australia Post, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, the Telecommunications Universal Service Management Agency and the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co).  Drew began his public sector career as a surveyor working in Australia and Antarctica, and has held leadership roles in energy policy, AusIndustry and science agencies.

Ros Harvey, Founding Director of  Sense-T

Ros Harvey is the founding Director of Sense-T, which is creating a world-first economy-wide sensor network, combining advanced analytics and modelling with real-time data to help business, government and communities make better decisions. Previous to taking up this role she was Deputy Secretary of the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts in the Tasmanian Government. Ros returned to Australia in 2010 following a 15-year international career. Ros was the Director of Better Factories Cambodia and went on to found Better Work – a partnership between the World Bank Group and the United Nation’s International Labour Organization. Better Work is globally recognised as a landmark in the field of corporate social responsibility, global supply chains and pro-poor development.
