Jun 27, 2014 -- Experts in spatial data and map quality are being invited to take part in an international workshop being held at the Old University, Valletta, Malta from 20 to 21 January 2015.
The workshop is co-organized by EuroGeographics Quality Knowledge Exchange Group, the European Location Framework (ELF) Project, International Organization for Standardisation (ISO), OGC and EuroSDR.
Papers on a range of topics including quality evaluation, certification and standards are sought by the programme committee which comprises members of the organizing organizations and other international experts.
Antti Jakobsson, Chair of the programme committee emphasised the need for common solutions for spatial data quality. “This workshop will focus on the collaborative efforts of the public sector, industry, academia and standardization communities to introduce practical solutions for quality assurance and management,” he said.
Carol Agius, Chair of EuroGeographics Quality Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN) added: “Today an unprecedented amount of spatial data is generated by the worldwide use of location-based services. In Europe, the INSPIRE Directive is also having a huge impact on the availability of geographic information. Better quality management is therefore vital.”
“This workshop aims to contribute to the ongoing debate on quality issues by promoting best practice, excellence and assessment techniques.”
The two-day event will include an update on the data quality validation service being delivered by the ELF project. Participants will also investigate the need for the further development and application of the metadata and quality standards created by ISO TC 211.
