Mappt v2.0 released with ECW and JP2 Imagery support

Taking large ECW or JP2 images into the field is no longer an issue with the release Mappt version 2.0 (Argyle)

Jul. 3, 2014 -- Perth company Scantherma has leveraged Hexagon Geospatial’s recent update of the ERDAS ECW/JP2 SDK for the Android mobile GIS market. Mappt is now available to download and use with support for up to 1 Gigabit ECW or JP2 imagery, allowing users to take their large geospatial imagery into the field without the need for bulky laptops or enterprise grade software.

Amir Farhand, CEO of Scantherma comments, “Field work has generally meant you have needed to print out large copies of maps to use in the field. Loading geospatial data, let alone large geospatial images, onto mobile devices has been a challenge. So using this information in areas where you have no 3G/4G connection proves that remote digital data management is difficult”.

Chris Tweedie, Product Manager from Hexagon Geospatial added: “It’s fantastic to see another Perth company adopting our mobile platform support. Our locally developed ECW/JP2 format is used globally across many industries. Apps such as Mappt make this available in the mobile environment, providing a really exciting prospect for users where the ability to take hundreds of gigapixels of imagery into the field is a huge business advantage.”

Mappt allows users to load GIS and imagery data onto tablet devices without the need for any other enterprise software to be installed. The software will pinpoint where you are on top of the loaded imagery, using the GPS within the tablet device even when you have no 3G or 4G communications available. Using location, imagery and your own GIS data you can then ground truth existing information, capture new data or track your movements, providing organisations with necessary intelligence on their assets in the field.

Mappt is available to download from the Google Play Store, with ECW and JP2 support included in the free version. To learn more visit www.mappt.com.au.
