#GEOHackHSV Hackathon Event at AEgis Technologies

Mar 31, 2016 -- #GEOHackHSV is a two-day hackathon event scheduled May 2 & 3, and hosted by AEgis Technologies and GEOHuntsville. This is the first-ever Cummings Research Park (CRP) Hackathon. Members of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency will participate as well. AEgis will host the event beginning May 2 at 7 am, and continue overnight with presentations and awards May 3.

Registration is free and available online www.geohackhsv.com.  Space is limited to 53 work stations with up to two people assigned to each team. Participants must be U.S. citizens and 18 years of age or older.  Registration includes breakfast plus a #GEOHackHSV t-shirt and a chance to win prizes including the “People’s Choice Award”. Schedule of events, information on Sample Data Set, rules, terms and conditions, plus sponsorship opportunities can be found at www.geohackhsv.com.

#GEOHackHSV aims to bring together the best and brightest to hack unclassified geospatial datasets and open source tools in an effort to collaborate towards more useful and efficient solutions for disaster response and recovery, FEMA, Army Corp of Engineers, and NGA. The Hackathon will promote group think and collaboration, plus participants are encouraged to bring their own Intellectual Property (IP) or share someone else’s IP to create a new product offering. Hackers include: software developers, mathematicians, geospatial professionals, user experience/user interface designers (UX/UI), and cyber-skilled technicians.

“AEgis Technologies is thrilled to share our enthusiasm of innovation, collaboration and fun with the CRP community by hosting this wonderful event,” said Lauren Johannesmeyer, AEgis Business Development Manager. “We’re looking forward to meeting all the teams and pushing the boundaries to create useful, relevant and cool concepts together.”

The goal of #GEOHackHSV is the ability to work with participants to identify and create new interactive and efficient ways of reading, disseminating, and analyzing tons of data from disparate systems. By leveraging open source tools and other software, the solutions participants bring to the table are highly encouraged. On day two of the event, teams will have 3-5 minutes to demo their concept/idea to the group.

#GEOHackHSV is part of Innovate Huntsville 2016 May 1-7. Innovate Huntsville is a collaborative effort designed to educate, inspire and engage entrepreneurs and strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Huntsville, Alabama. Innovate Huntsville 2016 is a week of scheduled events, panels and social activities including the region’s brightest entrepreneurs, investors, strategic advisors and community supporters.
