Commencing in March 2005, Merrick acquired and integrated an ALS 50 sensor from Leica Geosystems, an Applanix POS/AV Inertial Measurement Unit, a GPS flight management system from TrackAir, and Airborne GPS equipment from Trimble Navigation, Ltd. In addition, Merrick will produce and co-mount its Digital Airborne Camera System (DACS(tm)) with the ALS 50 sensor, which allows for simultaneous digital imagery and LIDAR acquisition. LIPL will also receive training and delivery of a total photogrammetric LIDAR workflow, including Merrick Advanced Remote Sensing (MARS(r)) software. Final delivery to LIPL is expected in late July 2005.
"We are very pleased to bring the best mapping technology in the world to the Australasia Region. This opens up new opportunities for management of assets and natural resources," states Montgomery Omodei, International Representative in Australia. "We are very confident in Merrick because of their combined technological expertise and proven field experience."
The mounting rack, sensor, and other equipment are easily transportable and can be installed in aircraft worldwide. "The equipment mobility offers a cost effective solution to areas without access to mapping technology," explains Brian Raber, Merrick's Vice President, GeoSpatial Solutions. "The traditional method of mobilizing systems and acquisition crews is time consuming and expensive. Our turnkey LIDAR system enables clients to use local airplanes and significantly reduce aerial data acquisition costs."
"Merrick's relationship with MMLPL offers us additional transportable hardware resources, including the new ALS 50 sensor and the DACS(tm), to meet increasing demands for highly accurate terrain data in the United States and elsewhere", states Gary Outlaw, Merrick's Vice President - Business Development, GeoSpatial Solutions.
Mark Romano, Merrick's Director of LIDAR Operations states, "We are pleased to package our extensive experience in every day business, operations, and field problem solving to provide proven turnkey LIDAR systems around the globe."
