TENET/Envitia MapLink Pro 5 - Next Generation Digital Mapping Tools Now Available

20 September, 2005 -- The most advanced and capable version ever of the world famous MapLink Pro digital mapping toolkit has just been released by TENET Defence and is available across all major platforms including Microsoft Windows, Linux, UNIX and VxWorks. MapLink Pro Version 5.0 builds on the well established MapLink reputation of high performance digital mapping for Mission Critical Systems and now offers solutions to meet the next generation of advanced user requirements.

MapLink Pro is an open Standards-based Commercial Off The Shelf (S-COTS) product that provides a component-based software toolkit for the handling and display of maps, charts and live track data – specifically designed for application developers across the defence, aerospace and maritime industry. This latest software release enables highly effective solutions across command and control, mission planning, mission support, simulation and training, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Chief Engineer at TENET Defence, Dave Vint, has stated that “the most important development in this latest generation of MapLink Pro is the introduction of a Spatial Data Services capability; this provides all the tools needed in Mission Critical Systems for secure data management and configuration control. This is the number one requirement for mission support and Ground Station systems where consistent and easy to manage data supply is becoming more and more critical. The MapLink Pro Spatial Data Manager (SDM) exploits this capability by providing a complete end user application for Ground Station based spatial data management and cataloguing. The SDM makes maximum use of ISO 19115 compliant Meta-data for tracking all available information across a networked environment and ensuring that the right data is used at the right time throughout a deployed force.”

Other major developments in MapLink Pro 5.0 include the introduction of a 3D Software Development Kit (SDK); this offers the ability to introduce 3D displays into existing or new 2D systems with the minimum of fuss and effort.

All existing 2D maps, charts and all standard terrain databases can be combined without any additional processing to quickly produce fast 3D displays. This latest release also sees the enhancement of symbology support across the range of S52, Geosym, APP6a and 2525 symbols, and also the update of MapLink Pro editing tools to reflect the very latest style guides for efficient user interfaces.
