Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , announced a definitive agreement to acquire UPS Aviation Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of United Parcel Service, Inc. for $38 million in cash.

Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 4, 2003. The Company reported second quarter revenues of approximately $138.1 million, versus approximately $123.3 million in the second quarter of 2002. Second quarter is traditionally the Company's seasonally strongest quarter due to the buying season in the Engineering and Construction market.
Avenza Systems Inc. announced that MAPublisher can now be demonstrated live over the internet using a new technology from Glance Networks. Similar to Webex, Glance does not require any additional client side software. Clients simply enter avenza.glance.net into a browser window, enter a four digit password and they are able to view the desktop of an Avenza representative who then provides a custom live demo of MAPublisher's capabilities. The person taking the demo can ask questions and request a review of specific functionality.

James W. Sewall Company recently signed a $1.3 million contract with the Centro de Recaudacion de Ingresos Municipales (CRIM) to complete the first digital parcel map of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Sewall will coordinate the project, totaling more than 800,000 parcels in a 8,959-square-kilometer area, with the Canadian firm Eastcan Geomatics Consultants, Limited, which is under separate contract with CRIM. Utilizing existing planimetric mapping and digital orthophotography from 1997-1998 aerial photography, Sewall will rectify parcel data from CRIM-supplied scans of cadastral maps, convert the data to vector format, and create new parcel IDs. The 14-month project will produce a digital cadastral data set with greater consistency, accuracy, and completeness. Final delivery of the data will be at three scales (1:1000, 1:2000, and 1:8000) in MicroStation .DGN file format

Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions, Shanghai Office, announced that Shanghai Telecom (SHT) selected Intergraph's G/Comms software as the enabling AM/FM/GIS core of its Enterprise Network Resources Management System. Merrick & Company, LIDAR, digital ortho imaging, photogrammetry and GIS mapping provider, announced a new $395,000 contract to deliver color digital orthophotography and updated planimetric features to be used in the City of Glendale's Geographic Information System (GIS). The digital orthophotography will be created from new aerial photography to be obtained as soon as weather permits and will be produced at 3 inch and 6 inch pixel resolutions to meet United States National Map Accuracy Standards. Merrick will deliver new and updated planimetric data (such as building foot prints, transportation features, parks, sidewalks, streams, and ridgelines), an updated digital terrain model (DTM), updated one and two foot contours, and spot elevations as ArcInfo coverages on CD-ROM. “Merrick is pleased to update the mapping products and services we originally delivered to the City of Glendale in 1992,” states Gary Outlaw, Vice President GIS Business Development at Merrick.
