MultiGen-Paradigm Announces Acceptance by Northrop Grumman Unmanned Systems of a Simulated Imagery Generation System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Programs Demonstrated and Evaluated in Its Cyber Warfare Integration Network

Custom Database and Image Generator Systems Provide Distributed Visualization for Engineering and Battlefield Operations Scenarios

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- MultiGen-Paradigm(R), Inc., a leading provider of realtime 3D visual simulation software solutions, announced acceptance of a custom open database and imagery generator system by Northrop Grumman Corporation. The distributed simulation system will be used for engineering prototyping and evaluation, training, mission rehearsal and after action review at Northrop Grumman's Cyber Warfare Integration Network (CWIN) facility in San Diego, California.

Northrop Grumman's CWIN is a virtual, geographically distributed battlefield environment that enables the company to analyze operational scenarios in real time using a customized mix of virtual intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors; command and control elements, and simulations of precision strike platforms.

MultiGen-Paradigm delivered an 8 by 8 geocell open-format terrain database to support out-the-window (OTW) and simulated sensor imagery generation for unmanned aerial vehicle simulation demonstrations and Concepts of Operation (CONOPS) evaluations. The database is a geocentric or round-earth database that includes imagery, terrain, culture and geo-specific high-resolution sites to support high, medium and low altitude UAV intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) simulated operations. Multiple versions of the database are being exported from the single common database to provide correlated C4I, SAF, and visualization applications in the CWIN.

The database was built with MultiGen-Paradigm's large-area terrain database generation tool, Creator Terrain Studio(TM). Creator Terrain Studio captures the workflow and preserves data at critical points in the production process to support reusability. Entity and feature models developed and delivered in support of the program were modeled in MultiGen(R) Creator(TM), MultiGen-Paradigm's comprehensive toolset that enables rapid generation of optimized object models.

The runtime system is based on MultiGen-Paradigm's FlightIG(TM) Image Generation System, to facilitate rapid integration into the Northrop Grumman simulation environment. In addition to the database, MultiGen-Paradigm will also integrate and install an IG master control station, interactive OTW station and sensor station to support scenario construction and simulation, visual views from the unmanned aerial vehicles and other entities in the environment and sensor views including infrared. FlightIG is based on Vega Prime(TM), MultiGen-Paradigm's application development environment; and includes the Vega Prime FX(TM), Vega Prime LADBM(TM), Vega Prime IR Sensor(TM), Vega Prime IR Scene(TM) and Vega Prime Radar(TM) modules. The image generation systems are based entirely on commercial-off-the-shelf technology (COTS).

"Working with Northrop Grumman to deliver a distributed simulation system for the unmanned aerial vehicles and CWIN illustrates our commitment to deliver open, cross-platform COTS software and solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customer," said Sandeep Divekar, CEO of MultiGen- Paradigm. "The open and integrated product lines enable rapid development and deployment as well as reusability."
