Feature Analyst 4.0 for ERDAS IMAGINE Available Now

January 4, 2005 -- MISSOULA, Montana – Visual Learning Systems (VLS) is pleased to announce the release of Feature Analyst® 4.0 for ERDAS IMAGINE, providing a sophisticated solution for extracting features of interest from imagery and scanned maps. Feature Analyst 4.0 offers significant new benefits including enhanced image and vector handling, direct read/write capability with the Geodatabase, and a developer API for creating plug-in tools.

While utilizing the ERDAS IMAGINE platform for advanced image processing, GIS analysts can now rely on Feature Analyst to classify object-specific features, such as buildings, water bodies, and airplanes, as well as perform full image segmentation and multi-class extractions. In addition to its automated feature extraction (AFE) capability, Feature Analyst offers tools for polygon editing such as smoothing, convert to line, and square up.

“Feature Analyst and ERDAS IMAGINE are naturally complementary products,” said Stuart Blundell, chief operating officer of VLS. “The combination of intelligent feature extraction technology and advanced image processing provides the analyst with a complete set of tools to truly turn imagery into information.”

Feature Analyst is currently aiding the efforts of clients such as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the USDA Forest Service with a simple approach to feature extraction. Providing increased speed and accuracy, the software offers every advantage over hand-digitizing feature collection methods and light-weight image classifiers.
