State project shows off new data systems

April 20, 2006 -- PORTAGE, Indiana -- The first of six Indiana GIS Road Show seminars across the state this year introduced high-tech yet hands-on uses for new high-resolution aerial photos, maps and infrared imagery.

The multidata layered images -- part of the $8.5 million 2005 Indiana Orthophotography Project, the first in the country -- now can be used by emergency planners and first responders in the region. They now can zero in on chemical storage sites, power plants, flood zones or other critical infrastructure.
