Wimmera Catchment Management Authority use ER Mapper for Image Management
Bookmark and Share

The Wimmera Catchment Management Authority (Wimmera CMA) in Victoria, Australia, has purchased ER Mapper to assist in the management of the 250 Gigabytes of aerial photos they have. The Wimmera CMA will use ER Mapper for mosaicing and compressing hundreds of image tiles into seamless compressed image moasaics. The Wimmera region is rich in natural assets including open forests and semi-arid landscapes, parks and reserves, agricultural areas, the Wimmera River, wetlands and streams. ER Mapper is widely used to enhance and process imagery for use in GIS, CAD, imaging, office and web applications.

Dr Luisa Schellens, GIS Analyst for Wimmera CMA said, “We plan to use ER Mapper to manage large quantities of aerial photography and DEM data. We have data for the entire Wimmera catchment area in tiled format. ER Mapper will be useful for mosaicing the tiles and for compressing the data. We will use ER Mapper in close association with ArcGIS. As we start using ER Mapper I envisage finding many more useful functions to help us process these and other datasets.”

Darren Mottolini, Partner and Program Manager for ER Mapper Asia Pacific said, “We are pleased that Wimmera CMA has found ER Mapper’s abilities to assist them with the management of their huge amounts of data. Environmental Management is of utmost importance in our world today and I have no hesitation in saying that their choice in ER Mapper will assist them greatly.”

About Wimera CMA
The prominent regional industries of agriculture and tourism are dependant on the conservation and sustainable use of the natural assets. Continued agricultural productivity is dependant upon the soil and water resources, while many recreational activities rely on healthy natural ecosystems.
“The Wimmera River is the lifeblood of the region. The river supplies and sustains wetlands of international significance, provides a social and environmental focus for many in the region, and provides water for stock, domestic and irrigation purposes.”

The prime responsibilities of Wimmera CMA are the health of land and water in our catchment region and promoting sustainable and productive land use practices.
Wimmera CMA works closely with the regional community, local and state governments and the Australian government to look after the Wimmera's environment.
