i-cubed Uses Nexsan SATABeasts to Hasten Creation of Next-Generation Global Imagery Maps

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—October 30, 2006— Nexsan Technologies, the leader in innovative and secure storage solutions, today announced that geospatial information provider i-cubed has selected Nexsan to provide over 300 terabytes of disk-based storage on its award-winning SATABeast enterprise-class storage arrays. i-cubed will use the SATABeasts as a critical part of their infrastructure to support the creation of next-generation image maps for their Internet Portal, commercial and Government customers.

i-cubed is a geospatial firm that offers complete business solutions based on information and imagery derived from air photos and satellite imagery. i-cubed's growing client base includes many of the world's largest Internet portals, government agencies, wireless telecommunications and vis/sim companies.

The SATABeasts have been integrated into the company's SAN to handle the disk-intensive image processing applications. SATABeast's extreme density design - 31.5 terabytes of storage capacity in just 4U of rack space - provides a compact footprint and can scale to 315 cost-correct terabytes of capacity in a single rack, optimizing the physical storage space within i-cubed's data center.

"The disk space requirements are exploding with the avalanche of new high-resolution imagery that our customers are demanding," said Russ Cowart, President of i-cubed. "Because of that, managing disk space and data center costs is critical to the successful expansion of our business. Nexsan's SATABeasts have been a tremendous addition to our system, helping us optimize our processing workflow and forestalling the expansion of our data center."

SATABeast's innovative combination of technologies delivers unsurpassed performance, reliability and cost savings for primary and near-line storage, disk-to-disk backup, secondary storage and fixed content archive applications. The SATABeast's unique design extends individual drive life and provides significant savings year over year, while its AutoMAID(TM) (Massive Array of Idle Disks) function allows SATABeast to place its disk drives into an idle state to conserve energy, yet provide near-instantaneous access to data.

"Data-intense applications, such as the digital imagery processing and manipulation provided by i-cubed, necessitate powerful storage solutions that can handle the deluge of information inherent in these kinds of enterprises," said Brendan Kinkade, Vice President of Marketing at Nexsan. "The SATABeast offers powerful disk-based storage volume without the need for a lot of physical floor space to house it all. The SATABeast delivers the highest performance and cost effectiveness in a single, scalable solution that is ideal for data-intensive storage applications."
