PCI Geomatics supports University of Regina project through the Canada Foundation for Innovation

Richmond Hill, OntarioApril 10, 2007:  PCI Geomatics® is pleased to announce its support for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) which funds research infrastructure helping Canadian universities and colleges carry out technology development.  Most recently, PCI Geomatics provided assistance to the University of Regina and Dr. Joseph Piwowar, currently doing research on understanding how climate change is affecting the sustainable management of prairie resources.

“Searching for climate signals in hundreds of time-sequenced satellite images is a challenging task,” said Dr. Joseph Piwowar, University of Regina.  “The robust suite of analysis tools available in Geomatica allows me to extract information about how the Earth has been responding to climate variations.”

Created in 1997, the CFI is an independent corporation created by the Government of Canada to carry out world-class research and technology development to benefit Canadians.  The CFI funds up to 40 percent of a projects infrastructure costs which are invested in partnership with eligible institutions from the public, private and voluntary sectors that provide the remainder.

PCI Geomatics is supporting this initiative through the provision of its Geomatica software technology, which is well suited to the processing of satellite images for studies in climatic change, as well as many other image-centric applications.  Throughout the years PCI Geomatics has successfully assisted many educational institutions through in-kind contributions including: the University of Western Ontario, University of Guelph, Sherbrooke University, Carleton University, and more.

“As a Canadian company, PCI Geomatics is committed to technology development and supports programs such as the Canada Foundation for Innovation to facilitate professors and universities’ research initiatives,” said Jeff Chamberlain, Account Executive at PCI Geomatics.
